About Spelltech Press
Hi! My name is Ember, sole owner, writer, editor, and designer for Spelltech Press!
Spelltech Press, as well as our first product, Arcana Moderna (releasing April 2026), is the culmination of years of experience playing, GMing, writing, and homebrewing for tabletop role-playing games, starting with D&D 4e back in 2009. Since discovering this amazing hobby during my teen years, I gradually developed skills in creative writing and system design, creating several homebrewed options for D&D 5e while I studied English literature, creative writing, and philosophy at university.
In 2016, I began creating my first TTRPG – an entirely unique system based loosely on open source d6 systems, accompanied by a “New Earth” setting that blended futuristic technologies with X-Men-style superpowers. That project unfortunately never left the first draft, and I eventually had to shelve the idea entirely. Despite my failure to release the product, however, I learned a lot from working on that game – how to draft ideas, how to balance statistical systems, how to outline a rulebook, how to build believable campaign settings, how to tell interactive stories, and most importantly, how to pace myself in the creation process.
Eight years later, I decided to give it another go. It began with a simple idea: what if a traditional medieval D&D setting, like those you would find in the official campaign guides, stopped using magic? And what if that world went through an industrial revolution very similar to our own world? What would happen when magic finally did make its way back into such a world, after society has been industrialized and modernized?
The result, after months of studying historical industrialization, world building techniques, and the 5e SRD, was Arcana Moderna: a complete conversion of the 5e rule set to work seamlessly within post-industrial fantasy worlds, along with my own modern fantasy setting to accompany the rules, Palana Moderna – an original world that blends the complexities and immensities of modern life with the mystical, magical features of traditional fantasy.
I’m beyond excited to share the Arcana Moderna: Quickfire Rules and the first official adventure, Palana Moderna: Fatal Attraction in April of this year! And rest assured, I have even more content and experiences already in the works beyond the release of this product. If you haven’t already checked out the blog, please take a look for further updates on Arcana Moderna and other stuff I’m currently working on!
Thank you so much for checking out Spelltech Press, and I hope you enjoy your visit! 🙂
